The UT Tower will shine with burnt-orange lights Sunday, May 14 to celebrate two national championships — one academic and one in RecSports.

The orange Tower recognizes both a student team from the School of Architecture and the McCombs School of Business for claiming first place in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Hines competition and the UT Fencing Club Women’s team for winning the 2017 USACFC National Championship.

The team from the School of Architecture and McCombs took home a $50,000 prize for their forward-looking redevelopment plan for a mixed-used Chicago site in the competition, which gives students 15 days to design and submit a comprehensive master plan proposal for a large-scale urban site.

Some 500 athletes from 37 collegiate club teams competed in the USA Collegiate Fencing Club (USACFC) Championships, according to Fencing.net.
