The UT Tower will shine with orange lights on Saturday, April 8 as part of Honors Day, an annual celebration of the university’s highest achieving students.

Introduced in 1948, Honors Day commemorates the accomplishments of students who have earned the designation College Scholar or Distinguished College Scholar. This celebratory, traditional ceremony serves not only as a prelude to Commencement to honor student achievement, but as a way to acknowledge the role that faculty play in student success.

During Honors Day celebrations, ceremonial elements will include an academic procession, orange and white honors cords worn by students, heraldic banners, inspirational messages and celebratory music. Faculty guests join student honorees in the procession and are seated next to them at the convocation. In a special presentation, students recognized as Distinguished College Scholars are invited to the stage to receive commemorative medallions from academic deans.
