Earth Day: Dark Tower Symbolizes Energy Efficiency, Conservation
To highlight the university’s commitment to energy conservation, the UT Tower will be dark the night of Monday, April 22 as the world celebrates Earth Day.
Only the clock faces and aircraft warning lights will be illuminated, and all window shades will be closed.
Since 2011, the UT Tower has gone dark on various occasions in April to celebrate and bring awareness to energy conservation.
“By turning the lights off in the Tower, we are visibly engaging the campus to commit to resource conservation,” says Jim Walker, Director of Sustainability. “The dark Tower demonstrates UT’s support for energy conservation and awareness.”
