For the first time in the program’s 28-year history, Texas Softball earned a national championship after beating Texas Tech 10-4 in Game 3 of the 2025 Women’s College World Series Championship Series on Friday, June 6.
The team will return to Austin for a celebration on Saturday, June 7, and the UT Tower will shine burnt orange lights and display a “1” on all sides. Per UT tradition, the campus landmark is lit in burnt orange from top-to-bottom with the number “1” lit on all four sides when a University of Texas athletics team wins an NCAA team championship.
This marked the second team national championship for The University of Texas during the 2024-25 academic year, as Men’s Swimming and Diving won the national title in late March. Texas now owns 68 all-time National Championships, including 64 NCAA crowns.
Texas has now won multiple National Championships in each of the last five seasons. During the last five years, the Longhorns have won a total of 13 NCAA team titles by eight different programs. Excluding the COVID-shortened year of 2019-20, Texas has won at least one NCAA Championship in 10-straight seasons.
