Tower Lighting Honors Dual Big 12 Titles for Swimming and Diving
The UT Tower will be drenched in burnt orange lighting this evening (Feb. 27) in recognition of The University of Texas at Austin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams’ impending victories at the Big 12 Championships.
The four-day event ends tonight at UT’s Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The men’s platform diving final begins at 4:30 p.m. CT while the swimming finals get underway at 6 p.m. CT.
Per UT tradition, the UT Tower is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top-to-bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship.
The top-ranked Texas men are poised to win their 37th consecutive conference title under 38th-year head coach Eddie Reese, 33rd-year associate head coach Kris Kubik and 22nd-year diving coach Matt Scoggin. With one session remaining, Texas leads with 712 points while West Virginia sits in second place with 566 points. TCU holds third place with 494 points.
Under fourth-year head coach Carol Capitani, fourth-year assistant coach Roric Fink and Scoggin, the seventh-ranked Texas women are set to win their fourth consecutive Big 12 team title. UT leads the event with 707 points, well ahead of second-place Kansas (434.5).
