Campus landmark will be lit in Burnt Orange in recognition of the Big 12 Conference titles won by Men’s and Women’s Tennis

The UT Tower will be lit in burnt orange Tuesday, May 9 to commemorate the Texas Men’s and Women’s Tennis’ 2023 Big 12 Conference championships. Per tradition, the University recognizes UT sports programs who win a conference team championship with a burnt orange lighting of the campus landmark.

Fans are encouraged to arrive in front of the Littlefield Fountain on 21st Street at 8:15 p.m. CT to watch the two teams take group photos.

The No. 1 Texas men (24-3) captured the Big 12 regular-season title with a perfect 5-0 mark in league play. It marked the third regular-season conference championship in the last four years and the 10th overall in program history, including six outright.

The No. 8 Texas women (23-4) shared the Big 12 regular-season title with Oklahoma (8-1 record) and captured the Big 12 Tournament crown with a 4-2 victory in the final match over the Sooners in Lawrence, Kan. The Longhorns have now won 24 regular-season league titles in program history, including 12 in the Big 12 and 12 in the Southwest Conference. This marked UT’s third-straight Big 12 tourney crown, and Texas has claimed the Big 12 Tournament title in four of the last five events and a total of 13 times.

In addition to the Tower lighting, the event will also include a National Championship ring ceremony for the members of the 2022 Women’s Tennis team.

The No. 1 Texas men and No. 8 Texas women have advanced to this year’s NCAA Championship Super Regionals, and both will host their respective Round of 16 matches on Saturday, May 13 at the Texas Tennis Center. The women will host No. 9 Pepperdine at 12 p.m. CT, while the men will host No. 14 North Carolina at 3 p.m. CT. Both matches feature free admission to the general public.
