UT Tower lit with the number 21.

The UT Tower will be lit orange Tuesday, September 5 to welcome new students to campus. And as a special welcome to the Class of 2021, the Tower’s windows will display the numbers 21.

The Tower lighting takes place during Longhorn Welcome, a two-week series of on-campus events for new Longhorns to make friends, to learn ways to get involved, to celebrate UT’s culture and core values and to get familiar with the Forty Acres.

“As we start a new semester, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose,” President Gregory L. Fenves said in a message to the campus community. “We are here to learn, teach, discover and create for the benefit of our society. So, let’s do what Longhorns do. Let’s rise to the challenge.”

On the night before classes began last week, the Tower also displayed “21” with orange lights. The next time it’s scheduled to happen, the Class of 2021 will be celebrating Commencement and leaving the Forty Acres.
